Across Europe, aluminium extrusion has become closely woven into some of the region’s biggest industrial and construction markets. From automotive and transport to buildings and industrial applications, extruded profiles are finding demand across a wide range of sectors. This is reflected in Europe’s position in the global market: the region accounted for 12 per cent of global aluminium extrusion capacity, making it the second-largest regional contributor after China. Aluminium futures weaken on sluggish demand
Aluminium fell 0.18 per cent to INR 109.40 per kg in futures trade today after traders reduced their exposure due to sluggish demand at the domestic spot market amid weak trend overseas. At Multi Commodity Exchange, aluminium for delivery in June eased 20 paise or 0.18 per cent to INR 109.40 per kg in a business turnover of 8 lots. The metal for delivery in May, however, was trading flat at Rs 108.70 per kg in 236 lots. The weakness in aluminium futures trading is mostly due to fall in demand from consuming industries at the domestic market and subdued trend overseas, marketmen said.

The Board of Directors of Alcoa today declared a dividend of $6.71875 per share on Alcoa’s 5.375 per cent Class B Mandatory Convertible Preferred Stock (“Class B Stock”) payable July 1, 2016 to holders of record of the Class B Stock at the close of business on June 15, 2016. The dividend on the Class B Stock is equivalent to a dividend of $0.671875 per Depositary Share (each Depositary Share representing a 1/10th interest in a share of Class B Stock).

Aluminium demand to remain strong; Alumina Ltd
Alcoa's Australian partner Alumina Ltd says demand for aluminium is expected to remain strong and the company is well positioned as it looks to secure higher prices. Chief executive Peter Wasow said strong growth in demand for aluminium was expected to continue, and Alumina's Alcoa World Alumina and Chemicals (AWAC) joint venture with metals giant Alcoa remains well positioned. Mr Wasow told the company's annual general meeting that AWAC's strategy of reducing costs had seen the company improve its cost advantage and it would try to increase higher priced index based sales from 75 per cent to 85 per cent of total sales.

USGS Mineral Industry Survey publishes Aluminum report for February 2016
According to the USGS Mineral Industry Survey report, only two companies reported domestic production of primary aluminum in February 2016 because of the recent smelter shutdowns. Consequently, production data were withheld to avoid the release of proprietary data. Total aluminum recovered from scrap in February 2016 was 296,000 metric tons, slightly more than that recovered in January and 4% more than that in February 2015. On March 24, Alcoa Inc. shut down the last operating potline at the 269,000-metric-ton-per-year (t/yr) Warrick smelter in Evansville, IN. Outlook remains bright for Malaysia's largest integrated aluminium producer
The near to medium term outlook of the South-east Asian aluminium producer Press Metal Bhd (Press Metal) remains bright, driven by the increased capacity from its Samalaju Phase 3 project, observed a recent industry report. The integrated aluminium major's Phase 3 smelter in Samalaju is at the tail-end of ramping up and is expected to be fully commissioned in the next few weeks. Profit at Chinese aluminium smelters has been expanding steadily thanks to sustainable aluminium price rise. However, many smelters have not shown strong interest in bringing idled capacity back online. Why? The main reason is negotiations with power plants over preferential power tariffs are still dragging on, SMM learned. Besides, continuous alumina price gains also leave those smelters whose costs are above 12,000 yuan per tonne hesitant about reopening. China alumina imports up 64.88% YoY in March
Customs data showed China imported 359,800 mt of alumina in March, up 64.88 per cent YoY, but down 3.37 per cent MoM. High profit encouraged Chinese alumina producers to step up production in March 2015, reducing demand for imported alumina. Alumina imports in March 2015 were partly affected by the 2015 Chinese New Year holiday, which took place in mid-February. Lower base in March 2015 explained the year-on-year increase in March 2016. Aluminium foil proves bright spot in China aluminium semis exports
China’s aluminium foil exports hit multi-year high in March and many producers remain optimistic over overseas market. According to China Customs, foil exports surged 30 per cent from February and 26 per cent from a year ago to 94,000 tonnes in March. Aluminium extrusion exports swelled 44 per cent month-on-month and 106 per cent year-on-year to 104,000 tonnes in March. Aluminium plate/sheet and strip exports spiked 43 per cent month-on-month to 150,000 mt, but down 9 per cent year-on-year. These brought China’s aluminium semis exports to 360,000 tonnes in March, up from February’s 260,000 tonnes and up 20.6 per cent from a year ago.
