This summer, Every Can Counts (ECC) has recycled more than 75,000 aluminium cans in the United Kingdom and Ireland in coordination with various leading beverage brands.
Over the past few months, the recycling initiative of Every Can Counts (ECC) has joined forces with significant brands like Red Bull and Most Wanted Wines, along with its team of 77 dedicated ambassadors, and has been active at major events like Latitude, Electric Picnic, and Download Festival. In addition, ECC made its first appearances at Radio 1’s Big Weekend, Radio 2 in the Park, LIDO, and Victorious Festivals this year.
During all these festivals and events, the ECC team has raised awareness on the importance of recycling and its sustainability by using various innovative props like fun voting bins and eye-catching cage installations. They even gave rewards to the audience who handed a bag full of empty cans to make the activities more engaging.
Above all, the ECC mascot, Canzee, made from 400 recycled cans, stole the show at numerous festivals. It became the crowd favourite by entertaining all its audience and making several stage cameos.
Apart from collecting cans, ECC ambassadors also gathered over 8,500 survey responses from their audience. It highlights that beaches, green spaces, streets, and shopping centres are top spots that require more recycling points. Almost half (48 per cent) are of the opinion that they would be in a position to recycle more if these facilities were available, like more accessible recycling points.
Chris Latham-Warde, Programme Manager at Every Can Counts, said, “It’s been another incredible summer working alongside leading festivals, event organisers, and our drinks brand partners across the UK and Ireland to highlight the value of recycling”.
“With the energy of festival goers and the commitment of our ambassador team, we’ve collected and recycled more than 75,000 cans nationwide, while also encouraging thousands of people to embrace recycling as part of their everyday routine. Each can that’s recycled can be back on shelves in as little as 60 days, and by working together, we can enjoy more planet-friendly festivals and move closer to achieving our ambition of a 100% recycling rate for drink cans.”
