Enterprise Odisha 2021: Vedanta Aluminium plans to collaborate with entrepreneurs and start-ups

At Enterprise Odisha 2021, Vedanta Aluminium Business, India's biggest manufacturer of aluminium and its value-added products, revealed intentions to work on innovation and technology with entrepreneurs and start-ups. The 23rd edition of Enterprise Odisha, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in partnership with the Government of Odisha, included important companies from several industries, including Vedanta Aluminium.

“Driven by innovation and technology, Odisha is poised to be a Trillion Dollar Economy in the next decade. I thank the Hon’ble CM of Odisha, Shri. Naveen Patnaik ji, for creating a favourable environment which has fostered 360-degree development in the state. We remain strongly committed to development of Odisha.Vedanta has planned major investments in thestate and we invite start-ups to partner us in this sustainable growth journey,” said, Mr Rahul Sharma, CEO of AluminiumBusiness, Vedanta Ltd.

Highlights from his speech include:

  • Odisha is known as the "Aluminium Capital of India," with Vedanta contributing significantly to the state's phenomenal growth over the last two decades.
  • Vedanta has connected Lanjigarh and Jharsuguda to the socio-economic mainstream with considerable investments, producing over 4 lakh livelihood prospects.
  • Vedanta's projected Aluminium Park will be a first-of-its-kind, attracting 1000+ SMEs and MSMEs to Odisha, generating INR 5,000 crore in revenue for the state and providing an extra 1 lakh job possibility for the local population.
  • Vedanta has established a 'Centre of Excellence' to bring together digitalization and research, foster entrepreneurship, and speed the development of future technologies.
  • Women make about 12 percent of Vedanta's youthful and highly trained staff, and they play vital roles in fundamental operations.
  • Over 3 lakh people from 125 villages benefit from Vedanta's social outreach activities in livelihood, healthcare, education, and skill development.
  • Vedanta's Nandghar programme seeks to build 400 modern anganwadis around the state that will function as child development and women empowerment centres.

Outlook For The Indian Aluminium Industry

Vedanta Aluminium Business, a part of Vedanta Limited, is India's largest aluminium maker, producing half of the country's aluminium, or 1.96 million tonnes, in FY21. It is a market leader in value-added aluminium products that are used in a variety of sectors. With its world-class aluminium smelters, alumina refinery, and power plants in India, the firm achieves its purpose of promoting developing applications of aluminium as the "Metal of the Future" for a greener future.
