Ducati Desmo450 SM pairs aluminium frame with 63.5hp racing performance

Ducati has unveiled the Desmo450 SM, a new production supermoto developed from its Desmo450 MX platform, featuring an aluminium twin-spar frame. This is designed to combine low weight, rigidity and strength. The motorcycle made its debut during World Ducati Week and is aimed at competition use.
The Desmo450 SM uses the same aluminium frame architecture as the motocross model. Ducati says the frame has also been designed to allow a straighter intake route while maintaining the strength and rigidity needed for high-performance riding. The bike has a fuel capacity of 7.2 litres.
The company has also focused on reducing weight in other areas. Its Bartubeless wheel system, for example, removes inner tubes and cuts rotating and unsprung mass by 1.2kg. The motorcycle also features a cast aluminium swingarm, adding to its lightweight chassis design and race-focused construction.

The bike uses 16.5-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels with Takasago Excel rims and Metzeler Racetec Slick SM tyres. Suspension includes a fully adjustable 49mm Showa closed-cartridge front fork with 280mm of travel and a fully adjustable rear Showa shock with 295mm of wheel travel.
Power comes from a 449.6cc single-cylinder engine producing 63.5hp at 9,400rpm. Ducati’s desmodromic valve system allows the engine to rev to 11,900rpm.
The motorcycle also gets Brembo brakes, a Suter slipper clutch and an active upshift quickshifter. Its electronics package includes Ducati Traction Control, Launch Control and Engine Brake Control, with two riding modes adjustable through Ducati’s X-Link app.
The Desmo450 SM has already competed in supermoto racing, with Marc Reiner Schmidt and Team Undici taking a win during its first world championship outing.
Available in Ducati Red, the company plans to begin deliveries to selected European dealerships from December 2026, followed by other markets.
