Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), a public service infrastructure company, has been creating awareness for environmental sustainability practices through recycling and the benefits of recycling.

DEWA advocates for recycling plastic bottles and aluminium cans in line with the Dubai Integrated Waste Management Strategy 2021-2041, which promotes innovation in waste management and recycling, converting waste to energy, and providing practical solutions to environmental challenges.
Since the launch of the recycling initiative in October 2022, around 690 employees have actively recycled 656,315 units of aluminium cans and plastic bottles. This collective effort has diverted 9.18 tonnes of waste from landfills, demonstrating the integral role our employees play in our sustainability mission.
DEWA has installed smart machines to recycle plastic bottles and aluminium cans, which can be operated by employees using DEWA’s Smart Office app. The machines read the QR code on the smart app and the employees receive points for each recycling operation. DEWA has honoured 70 employees for their participation in recycling.
In line with its commitment to achieve Net-Zero by 2050, DEWA has organised 14 awareness activities for employees to highlight the importance of sustainability practices, including enhancing the efficiency of electricity and water consumption, limiting waste, reducing plastic use, and reusing and recycling aluminium cans.
