India proposes 5-year extension of aluminium foil duties with rates up to $977/t
India may continue imposing anti-dumping duties on aluminium foil from China, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia for another five years, following a recommendation from the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR). The proposed duties on aluminium foil of 80 microns and below range from USD 93 to USD 977 per tonne, depending on the country and exporter. The final decision on the recommendation will be taken by the Finance Ministry. The DGTR said extending the duties was necessary after reviewing submissions from interested parties as part of a sunset review investigation. China aluminium extrusion output slumps as property weakness deepens, export boost fades
China's aluminium extrusion output has continued to trend lower, with the construction segment acting as a significant drag. According to Mysteel's sampled manufacturers, industry output sustained a decline from July to September 2026. Within this, construction aluminium extrusion output fell by a cumulative 21.2 per cent from early July to September, reflecting persistent weakness in traditional building demand. In contrast, industrial extrusion output declined by just 3.7 per cent over the same period, demonstrating relative resilience and providing a floor for total production. US aluminum’s 98% employment shift: Why downstream companies matter
Over the past few years, the employment story of US aluminum industry has been entering chapters from the downstream segment. According to the Aluminum Association, almost 98% of all US aluminum jobs are now concentrated in mid- and downstream processing and recycling, even as employment in primary aluminum has fallen sharply. The Aluminum Association’s latest 2026 economic impact study puts direct industry employment at 165,354 jobs, with the wider aluminum ecosystem supporting 871,464 direct, indirect and induced jobs and generating $326.4 billion in economic output.
