Novelis Q2 sees net sales rise 25% while rolled product shipments fell 2%

Novelis reported a 20 per cent year-on-year increase in adjusted EBITDA to USD 508 million in the second quarter of fiscal year 2027, while rolled product shipments declined 2 per cent to 919,000 tonnes. Net sales rose 25 per cent to USD 5.9 billion from USD 4.7 billion in the corresponding quarter last year, mainly due to higher average aluminium prices. Higher shipments of beverage packaging and aerospace products were partly offset by lower volumes in automotive and speciality products. Net income attributable to Novelis' common shareholders increased 29 per cent to USD 210 million, compared with USD 163 million a year earlier. Excluding special items, net income also rose 29 per cent to USD 146 million. Explore further insights and forecasts for the aluminium flat rolled products...

From raw resources to battery-ready materials: Australia's downstream ambitions take shape

Australia could turn more of its aluminium and copper resources into higher-value battery components, with a new report from national science agency CSIRO identifying opportunities to strengthen the country's domestic battery manufacturing capabilities. The report, The Future of Australian Battery Manufacturing: Cell Cans and Current Collector Foils, examines how Australia could use its existing industrial expertise, materials and manufacturing capabilities to produce key components for lithium-ion and emerging sodium-ion batteries. Rather than focusing solely on the country's critical mineral resources, the analysis explores practical ways to move further downstream and capture more value through local manufacturing. The opportunity comes as global demand for batteries continues to grow,...

Germany-France aluminium FRP trade 2026 at $692m: Two-way exchange of coil, sheet, foil and high-value products

Germany and France share one of Europe’s busiest downstream aluminium corridors, and the metal flows in both directions. In the first seven months of 2026, aluminium flat rolled products (FRP), which cover aluminium plates, sheets and strips (HS code: 7606), as well as aluminium foil (HS code: 7607), crossed the border each way, amounting to a total of around USD 692 million. However, the bilateral trade flow is tilted towards Germany, which remains France’s largest FRP supplier. Nonetheless, the inter-dependence remains as the countries do exchange the same products but engage in cross-border trade of specialised high-value products and alloys, feeding the demand on either side. The trade figures for January–July 2026, as compiled from the International Trade Administration, highlight...

Alcoa and Becema Introduce New Aluminum Solution for Commercial Transportation Market in Russia

Alcoa and Becema, a leading Russian producer of tanks and semi-trailers, have launched a new lightweight aluminum cement hauler for the Russian market using Alcoa's new advanced aluminum sheet alloy 1565M. The eco-friendly aluminum trailers were launched during a customer event at Becema's Krasnogorsk, Russia, plant this week. "By using Alcoa's new advanced sheet alloy, the weight of the tank body has been reduced by 25-30 percent over base aluminum alloys. The weight has been reduced 300 percent versus a steel tank, saving approximately 2600 kilograms or more than 2 tons per tank," said Ilya Vishnevskiy, Acting Commercial Director Alcoa Russia. "Lower weight and high strength from aluminum equals cost savings in transport costs and fuel savings." Aluminum's other advantages include...

Alcasa signs deal with Italian company to design aluminum extrusion plant

Venezuela's CVG-Alcasa has signed an agreement with Italy's Predieri Metalli to perform the basic design and engineering work on a new aluminum extrusion facility at the Puerto Ordaz-based smelter, Alcasa said Thursday. The contract was signed last week and engineers from the Italian firm have already arrived in Venezuela to begin review of the site for the plant, an Alcasa official said. The new plant, with projected installed capacity of 40,000 mt of aluminum profiles, will be installed where Alcasa's potlines 1 and 2 operated before they were torn down in early 2010. The extrusion facility's cost was previously estimated at between $100-$150 million and would form part of a multi-project $403 million contract Alcasa is negotiating with the Aluminum Corporation of China. "Once we obtain...

Honda Transmission announces $50M expansion

Building on a series of recent investments at Honda manufacturing facilities across the state of Ohio, Honda Transmission Mfg. of America, Inc. Wednesday announced a $50 million expansion to increase capacity for the casting of aluminum transmission cases. This latest project brings Honda’s total new capital investment in its Ohio operations to more than $400 million, and more than $8 billion since the company started manufacturing in the state in 1979. Magnode to halt casting, source Hydro billet

Magnode Corp. will shut its on-site casthouse by year’s end and begin sourcing billet for its extrusion presses from Hydro Aluminum North America Inc. instead, sources familiar with the operation told AMM. Executives at Magnode did not return calls for comment, but one source familiar with the deal said the decision to close Magnode’s 15,000-tonne-per-year casting operation was likely cost-related. "When you’re operating a casthouse at well below its capacity, the cost is pretty significant," he said. "They were probably able to get billet from Hydro more cheaply than they could produce themselves." The Trenton, Ohio-based aluminum company’s extrusion operations will remain open. Magnode’s extrusion presses—which include a 4,500-ton press and a 2,400-ton press, according to its Web...

Surmet Announces the Expansion of its Aluminum Nitride (AlN) Manufacturing Operations

Surmet Corporation of Burlington, MA, now in its 30th year of successful operations, announces the expansion of its Aluminum Nitride (AlN) manufacturing operations in Buffalo, NY. This strategic move is in response to the significant growth in Global demand for thermal management packaging in the Green-Tech device industry. High Brightness LED outdoor lighting products require efficient heat removal to assure peak performance and long life. While alumina is sufficient for low power levels, higher power levels will necessitate the use of AlN because of its unusual and desirable combination of high dielectric strength and high thermal conductivity. AlN is 8 to 10 times more thermally conductive than alumina, and its conductivity will not deteriorate with rising temperatures. With a...
