Australia could turn more of its aluminium and copper resources into higher-value battery components, with a new report from national science agency CSIRO identifying opportunities to strengthen the country's domestic battery manufacturing capabilities. The report, The Future of Australian Battery Manufacturing: Cell Cans and Current Collector Foils, examines how Australia could use its existing industrial expertise, materials and manufacturing capabilities to produce key components for lithium-ion and emerging sodium-ion batteries. Rather than focusing solely on the country's critical mineral resources, the analysis explores practical ways to move further downstream and capture more value through local manufacturing. The opportunity comes as global demand for batteries continues to grow,...
Germany and France share one of Europe’s busiest downstream aluminium corridors, and the metal flows in both directions. In the first seven months of 2026, aluminium flat rolled products (FRP), which cover aluminium plates, sheets and strips (HS code: 7606), as well as aluminium foil (HS code: 7607), crossed the border each way, amounting to a total of around USD 692 million. However, the bilateral trade flow is tilted towards Germany, which remains France’s largest FRP supplier. Nonetheless, the inter-dependence remains as the countries do exchange the same products but engage in cross-border trade of specialised high-value products and alloys, feeding the demand on either side. The trade figures for January–July 2026, as compiled from the International Trade Administration, highlight...

The plant will produce two ranges of cans: 330ml and 500ml. The first line is anticipated to commence...

After a record world production of aluminium aerosol cans of about 6 billion units in 2010 the industry is expecting to break this record in 2011. According to AEROBAL, the International Organisation of Aluminium Aerosol Container Manufacturers, production grew by 8 per cent in the first half year of 2011 to a level of 3.3 bn cans worldwide. Since the order income in the third quarter has also been satisfactory, the production capacities of several companies are fully booked until the end of the year. Growth was generated across the board with a one-digit growth rate in North America and two-digit increases in Europe, South America, Asia and Africa. Especially the demand for deodorants which accounts for about 50 per cent of the total aluminium aerosol can production was very lively with...

Aluminium is on average 20% to 40% lighter than steel, depending on the product, and can be made equally strong and crash worthy but at about 3 times the cost per ton. With the exception of high end automobiles where price sensitivity is less important, steel is the standard for car bodies and train cabins. Aluminium can claim dominance only in aerospace, where its lightweight properties more than outweigh its additional cost. However, high gasoline prices and heightened environmental concerns are driving tougher fuel efficiency standards that heavily influence metal preference, a trend we think is unlikely to reverse. In the US, car companies face stricter Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards by the Department of Transportation and the Environmental Protection Agency, with European...

According to China Customs aluminum profiles exports are 77 thousand tons,an increase of 9.3% YOY, aluminum plate and aluminum strip exports are 128.8 thousand tons,an increase of 54.57% YOY. From the view of month-to-month, aluminum profiles decrease 29.8 thousand tons, aluminum foil keeps stable. There are few main reasons which have caused decline in export, the first one is ratio of Shanghai price and London price is around at 7.5 all the time, this leads to decline in profits for domestic aluminum exporters. The second one is debt crisis in Europe and America which has lead to Europe and America's economic growth slowing down, and domestic consumption had to descend.

Most metals already have claimed dominance in their respective areas of popular usage. Aluminum's light weight has made it the top material for airplane bodies. However, continuous innovation by metal producers has widened the range of potential uses for many metal products. Further, a divergence in metal pricing in recent years has made metal substitution an important consideration for manufacturers. The cost of the metal used is typically less than 10% of the finished product's total cost, so original-equipment manufacturers and other users of metal tend to be less sensitive to metal pricing in the short term, particularly with respect to high-end appliances, automobiles, and electronics. However, long-term price levels and price volatility make metal costs an important determinant of...
