Germany and France share one of Europe’s busiest downstream aluminium corridors, and the metal flows in both directions. In the first seven months of 2026, aluminium flat rolled products (FRP), which cover aluminium plates, sheets and strips (HS code: 7606), as well as aluminium foil (HS code: 7607), crossed the border each way, amounting to a total of around USD 692 million. However, the bilateral trade flow is tilted towards Germany, which remains France’s largest FRP supplier. Nonetheless, the inter-dependence remains as the countries do exchange the same products but engage in cross-border trade of specialised high-value products and alloys, feeding the demand on either side. The trade figures for January–July 2026, as compiled from the International Trade Administration, highlight...

The strike was ended after Spoon said Nichols made “a pretty strange move with making its replacement workers permanent.” Last week, Nichols Aluminum President Tom Brackmann said the company had offered full-time...

Last June, in an aluminum market analysis during HARBOR Aluminum Outlook conference in Chicago, Lloyd O’Carroll gave attendees an overview of the aluminum beer can market. He showed a slide containing a graph that depicted US beer consumption. “I try to do my part in this, and I’m going to keep trying,” said O’Carroll, who is senior vice president and metals equity analyst for Richmond, Va.-based Davenport & Company. “The rest of you — do your part.” What O’Carroll was promoting, of course, was not indiscriminate alcoholic consumption (necessarily), but increased domestic aluminum sheet usage in the beverage industry. The 2008 recession took its toll on beer consumption, which showed a 2 percent decrease in total domestic consumption from 2008 to 2009, the biggest drop in over a decade....

Romania Insider reported that Romanian aluminum producer Alro owned by Vimetco plans to add a new mill to increase capacity for aluminum wire production in response to higher demand on the US market. Even so, Alro expects a drop in the total aluminum production in 2012 due to a shortage in energy supply and foresees lower operational revenues down 11% to some USD 639 million. Its profit expectations are also lower down 5% on 2011 to some USD 71.4 million. Alro’s wire production should be up 17.8% to some 87,000 tonnes this year. The company said that estimations for 2012 are based on the entry into production of a Properzi mill to increase wire production, given the higher demand from Europe and the US as the wire is the most profitable product made by the Primary Aluminum Division....

Under the circumstance of sluggish growth, China encourage companies to export semi-finished aluminum products, thus the export rebates will not reduced this year. Last year was planned to reduce the export rebates from 13-15% to 9% for some products, but never put into practice while considering the decline in demand may caused sluggish export. At the first two months in 2012 export volume was increased 7% compared with last year, which was obviously lower than the amount of increase(33%) that realized in 2011.
