RHB has however kept its "buy" call for the stock. Ng said Press Metal is still "unable to assess the full impact" of the electricity-supply disruption. Jaguar Land Rover is currently conducting a feasibility study into the establishment of a production facility in the Saudi Arabian industrial port of Yanbu. As reported, the Saudi government is trying to lure the auto maker with the promise of a free factory. If the company were to go ahead with the plan, it would be the first company to take advantage of Saudi Arabia’s government incentives. The government is willing to invest over $1 billion to construct a world-class manufacturing facility and it would lease it to Jaguar Land Rover for production of its sports sedans and top-end SUVs. Another factor adding to the desirability of the plant is the presence of the Alcoa aluminium smelter in the industrial port. This would be able to provide a future factory with low-cost materials for...

Constellium has enjoyed great success using Quintiq’s platform to optimize its melt/cast and hot rolling operations for over a decade, and now intend to use it to improve key performance indicators in delivery performance and inventory reduction between plants in Valais and Issoire. The extended platform will be immediately applied to Constellium’s aerospace product manufacturing sequence. Prior to Quintiq’s platform going live, the Valais plant used an ERP system with fixed lead-time calculations to quote due dates on orders. Now, Quintiq’s optimized platform supports reliable due date quotation based on a sales budget check and finite capacity planning that takes into account material availability, from casting to finished goods. “By implementing Quintiq’s platform at Constellium’s...

SMM survey found that orders at small and medium construction aluminum extrusion producers fell in June with faltering consumption. Large producers, in contrast, reported ample orders. Consumption of construction aluminum extrusion is driven by construction projects and distribution networks. Decoration companies place orders with aluminum extrusion producers after securing contracts from real estate developers. Transactions between aluminum extrusion producers and distributors are largely on a retail sale basis. Distributors with strong financial strength also receive orders from decoration companies or property developers. Two factors are behind the sharp contrast between orders at large producers and SMEs. First, with liquidity in all sectors tightening, a growing number of aluminum...

The Saudi Arabian government is looking to invest $1 billion in a factory in the hopes of attracting manufacturing from car makers such as Jaguar. The Middle East is on the verge of transforming its contribution to the automotive landscape from powering cars to actually building them. Jaguar Land Rover has confirmed it is currently conducting a feasibility study to establish a production facility in the Saudi Arabian industrial port of Yanbu, becoming the first car maker to leverage the region’s rich resources and financial incentives. While Holden and Toyota are trying to ensure the long-term future of its Australian manufacturing facilities and are presently lobbying the federal government – and the coalition – to continue taxpayer-funded assistance beyond 2016, the Saudi government is...

The Aluminum Extruders Council on Tuesday commended the recent arrest and indictment of five people and three companies who conspired to smuggle Chinese aluminum extrusions into the US with the intent to fraud the country of around $26.7 million in antidumping and countervailing duties. “It is extremely gratifying to see the US Department of Justice take action against those seeking to illegally bypass the import duties on Chinese aluminum extrusions,” Council President Rand Baldwin said in a statement. “North American extruders have expended a great deal of effort and expense in their quest to establish a level playing field in the U.S. and Canadian extrusion markets,” Baldwin said. “Those efforts paid off when the Commerce Department ... imposed both antidumping and countervailing...

The Aluminum Extruders Council (AEC) and The Aluminum Association, Inc. A report by Reuters suggested that aluminium is still the material of choice for the aerospace industry despite the introduction (and use) of carbon composites, particularly on new-generation wide-bodied airliners. With the light metal’s percentage share of the aerospace market estimated to grow by 2.4% between 2010 and 2020 – according to Metal Bulletin analysts – and Alcoa announcing expansion of it Kitts Green plant in the UK in order to boost aluminium-lithium production, it’s all looking very promising for the green metal as lighter alloys hit the market. The big market for aluminium, however, is single-aisle aircraft, which, says Aleris’ Ingrid Jorg, are not in the market for composites and may never succumb to aluminium’s nemesis, unlike their wide-bodied, long-haul counterparts....
