Aluminium changes its way into the automobile world

Aluminium changes its way into the automobile world

Mustang versus Camaro. BMW versus Mercedes. Camry versus Accord. These are among the biggest rivalries in the automobile world. Get ready for the next epic battle: aluminium versus steel. “This has become a real competition,” said Golam Newaz, an automotive materials engineer at Wayne State University in Detroit. The growing contest between the two metals was evident in the new car introductions at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit this week. Automakers are looking ahead to the stringent federal standard requiring a near-doubling of fuel economy by 2025. Putting cars on a diet is the only way to hit that goal. When Ford Motor Co. introduced the next generation of its top-selling Ford F-150 truck last week, the completely re-engineered pickup featured aluminium from the...

Jaguar's compact sedan to sport its latest scalable aluminium architecture

Finally Jagaur has announced they will be releasing a compact sedan. Jaguar’s new car will make its debut sometime in the year 2015. Its main competitor is BMW 3-Series, one of the world’s bestselling cars. Jaguar certainly has something difficult to attain if they mean to displace the 3-Series from the top. GM applies patented technologies to cars, trucks

A patent for an industry-first aluminum welding process used on the 2014 Corvette Stingray is one example of how General Motors is driving more of its inventions into making and equipping cars and trucks on the road. Another industry first - the use of a lightweight shape memory alloy wire instead of a heavier motorized actuator to open and close the Corvette Stingray's hatch vent - is another reason General Motors continued to lead the auto and transportation industries in patents granted for the 10th consecutive quarter for July to September, according to The Patent Board. According to The Patent Board, GM received 1,672 U.S. patents in 2013 applied to global product engineering, powertrain engineering, manufacturing, research and development and OnStar organizations. That's 176 more...
