Scientists develop ultra thin aluminium wires to help superconductors' function

Scientists at Johns Hopkins University have now developed extremely thin nano wires which can trap the electron vortices that develop in superconductors and facilitate the smooth flow of currents. When different materials are cooled to -460°F using liquid helium, they become superconductors. Their main advantage is that they can carry electric current without resistance. They are largely used in MRI machines, photon detectors, radio filters in cell phones and particle accelerators. They are also set to play a critical role in the quantum computers of the future. But the magnetic field which is created by the electricity causes some electrons to behave differently. They form tiny formations like tornado which are called electron vortices and they skitter across the smooth surface of the...

ADC completes inquiry into anti-circumvention activity in relation to aluminium extrusions

The Anti-Dumping Commission (“ADC”) has completed its inquiry into the alleged anti-circumvention activity of five importers (“Importers”) of aluminium extrusions exported by Pan Asia (“Goods”), which have allegedly avoided the intended effect of the duty imposed on certain aluminium extrusions imported from China. The findings set out in the ADC’s Final Report (“Report”), include that: • goods subject to dumping and countervailing duties were exported to Australia from a country to which the notice applied; and • the Importers sold the Goods in Australia without increasing the price commensurate with the amount of the duty payable under the Dumping Duty Act (by way of selling the goods at a loss). As a result of these findings, the Anti-Dumping Commissioner (“Commissioner”) has made...
