A major police operation in India’s Uttar Pradesh has exposed an inter-district network allegedly involved in stealing electricity transformers and selling their internal metal components, including aluminium wire and copper binding, to scrap dealers. Police in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, have busted an inter-district transformer theft gang and arrested eight people, including a scrap dealer accused of purchasing stolen materials. Ford has produced more than 5,000 large aluminium unicastings at its Shelbyville Technical Center as it advances manufacturing preparations for the Fathom midsize electric truck, scheduled to launch in 2027. The castings are being used for process testing and prototype assembly at the company's Louisville Assembly Plant. The Fathom will feature two large aluminium unicastings that replace 146 individual structural parts, significantly simplifying the vehicle's architecture. The latest US Geological Survey data for April 2020 shows an expansion in aluminium crude metal and alloys exports from the United Arab Emirates to the US. The United Arab Emirates exported 38,400 tonnes of aluminium extrusions in April, compared to 20,400 tonnes in March 2020. So, month-on-month, the exports recorded a surge of 18,000 tonnes or 88.24 per cent. When compared to the same period last year (April 2019), the UAE’s aluminium crude metal and alloys exports to the US were found 24.27 per cent higher from 30,900 tonnes. According to the US Geological Survey, the United States’ aluminium crude metals and alloys imports from Canada surged by 40 per cent month-on-month in March 2020. From 145,000 tonnes in February, the US aluminium crude metals and alloys imports jumped to 203,000 tonnes in March, found the data. In January, the country had imported 213,000 tonnes of aluminium extrusion products, meaning February saw a month-on-month downfall of 31.92 per cent. The imports in January were also down from its previous month from 229,000 tonnes to 213,000 tonnes. The data thereby indicates a rise in March imports after two consecutive months of decline.
