On May 19, China’s domestic aluminium billet inventory slumped by 2,300 tonnes or 1.66% W-o-W to score at 136,400 tonnes. Following the drop in aluminium prices and conversion margins, downstream purchasers were more eager to enter the market. Hindalco Industries Limited has continued to increase its aluminium products and aluminium ingot prices as the global aluminium benchmark price on the London Metal Exchange rallies back-to-back. With effect from Wednesday, May 18, Hindalco’s aluminium wire rod price has experienced a sharp rise of INR 10,500 per tonne or 4.12% to INR 265,100 per tonne.
According to the Shanghai Metals Market data, the average operating rate across aluminium processors in China grew by 1.3% points week-on-week to stand at 58.6 per cent last week ended Friday, May 13, driven by the resumption of operations after the Labour Day Holiday.
