Equispheres aluminium material qualifies for TruPrint 3000 metal 3D printer series

Equispheres AlSi10Mg powders have been certified by Trumpf for use in its TruPrint 3000 line of 3D printers, with two-parameter sets to be provided. Equispheres' aluminium materials may achieve a 13 per cent quicker build rate than ordinary aluminium powder with a standard parameter set. As per the certification, it may also achieve a 33 per cent faster throughput with a 'productivity' parameter set. Both parameter sets are stated to have tensile qualities that are similar to ordinary aluminium powders.

Equispheres aluminium powders are made using a technique that produces spherical, very homogeneous particles. The business raised tens of millions of dollars in 2020 to assist the development of its materials, with commercial-scale reactors coming online this year to satisfy growing demand.

Equispheres aluminium powders were tested at 60-micron layers with build speeds of 164 cm3/h on a dual-laser system during certification. On its other 3D printing machines, the business plans to give specifications for Equispheres' aluminium powders.

“The characteristics of Equispheres’ powders will allow our customers to achieve better quality parts at higher build rates. By identifying this type of high-performing material and preparing the optimal parameters, we give our clients a competitive edge,” said Tobias Kiesow, an application engineer with TRUMPF. 

Meanwhile, Trumpf offers a range of metal 3D printing options, including the TruPrint 3000 powder bed fusion technology. With a dual-laser setup that can scan the machine's whole build chamber in tandem, this platform can create items up to 300 millimetres in diameter and 400 millimetres in height.
