Dongfeng Renault Automotive Co. will reportedly introduce its first electric vehicle next year in China. The news came after Francois Provost, Renault’s Asia chief and CEO of Dongfeng-Renault, disclosed the plan last week.

Dongfeng Renault Automotive Co is an equally-owned joint venture between car manufacturers Dongfeng Motor Group and Renault established in 2013 with an aim to produce and sell Renault-badged vehicles.
The joint venture will launch two other EV models before 2022, Provost added.
Not much detail is known yet about the would-be launched cars, except the fact that the first one will be a low-price small EV, which will be manufactured at Dongfeng’s assembly plant in Shiyan and distributed under a new brand planned by Dongfeng-Renault, according to the information published on Shiyan government website.
At present, Dongfeng Renault Automotive Co. sells the locally produced Renault Koleos crossover and Kadjar SUV.
In the first half of the year, the joint venture witnessed a growth in China sales by 1 per cent to 37,892 units from the contemporary period last year.

Dongfeng-Renault also plans to roll out nine new models, including the three EVs, over the next four years to increase annual sales to 400,000 in 2022.
The joint-venture Renault-Brilliance Jinbei, which was formed at the end of last year, will also build and market vehicles under the Jinbei brand. It is due to start producing Renault-badged models in 2020.
