Demand for aluminium foil packaging and waterproof aluminium boxes is on the rise

2MINS READ
A recent study, conducted by the market research company Smithers Pira, showed that demand for transparent plastics barrier films is set to grow at an annual average rate of 3.9 per cent globally reaching 1.9 million tonnes in 2021. The consumption of flexible aluminium foil packaging is expected to increase at an average annual rate of 2.5 per cent per year reaching almost 3 million tonnes by 2021.

The demand for packaging films has also been growing globally for over a decade now. Apart from ensuring high barrier effect packaging films also score high from manufacturing and logistics points of view for being cost-effective, light-weight and low volume. Plus, the innovative packaging has long durability and can be disposed off easily.

The reason for this boom in transparent film, the study says, is change in consumer demand patterns. The transparent films can be used in microwave ovens, making it very handy for everyday use.

Another packaging solution that is steadily finding a market worldwide is waterproof aluminium box. Zarges GmbH in Wellheim is the world’s first manufacturer to make aluminium boxes with the protection standard IP 67.

The company has recently launched a new version of robust K470 boxes. These aluminium packaging does more than protecting packaged products against dust and water jets. Thanks to its innovative mixed system of a closure and hinge with uniform pressure distribution, the lid of the box remains tight for at least 30 minutes under one metre of water. Even after transportation by air, the aluminium box can be opened without any problem. This means that vulnerable items, too, can be shipped under extreme conditions.

With the changing demand patterns of consumers, these aluminium packaging will soon become mainstay for cross-border transport of food and perishables.
