
The capacity of alumina refining has increased massively across the major alumina producing regions driven by a humongous demand for aluminium in the world, especially in China. The global alumina capacity is estimated to grow by 29.6% over the next ten years.

{alcircleadd}Norway is the European Union's 5th most important import partner for trade in goods apart from being main exporter of metals in particular, of aluminium. The country imports huge amount of alumina from the global market .Brazil remains the top exporter of alumina in 2016.The import is expected to rise sharply this year as compared to last years.

As shown by the data, Norway imported about 2432684 tonnes of alumina in 2015. The amount slightly fell in 2016 to reach 2398586 tonnes. The country is estimated to import about 3136408 tonnes of alumina in 2017, an extreme increase.

The cost of alumina import stood at USD 773.56 million in 2015. In 2016, the import generated a cost of USD 643.53 million. The cost of import for alumina in 2017 is estimated to be USD 769.89 million. The cost of alumina is also estimated to rise significantly this year.

According to latest statistics, In 2016, Norway imported the largest amount of alumina from Brazil (about 1979686 tonnes) and Spain exported about 318495 tonnes to Norway.
