COVID-19 Solution: EGA completely shifts to online training model for employee learning and talent development

Emirates Global Aluminium has adopted specially-designed virtual learning platforms for its employee learning and talent development during the COVID-19 pandemic. At the onset of the pandemic, EGA moved all its workshops and learning circles online in just five weeks, launching a new virtual learning platform called My Learning. The company is using online courses to train its instructors and facilitators as well. 

EGA has digitised the entire training framework for its National Training programmes, which include both theoretical and practical training for operational and technical roles.

The company’s virtual learning platform My Learning provides access to the company’s entire range of courses and modules, covering core skills related to safety and compliance, management and leadership skills, and technical training amongst many other development areas. 

In line with the pandemic, EGA also developed new training content to empower its employees. The courses include COVID-19 prevention, leading virtually, virtual accountability, emotional resilience, and fostering positive mind-sets.

Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, EGA’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “Training and developing our people is important for our future, and it was vital that we continue this work during COVID-19. As in other areas of our business, we have had to adapt rapidly to the new reality, and I am pleased with what the learning team has achieved.” 

At present, some 64 young Emirati trainees are productively engaged in full-time virtual classes, including some 21 National Trainees who have joined since July.
