Collector lifts ban on bauxite transportation

South Goa collector N D Agrawal on Friday revoked the suspension of transportation of bauxite ore from Nakeri-Betul to the MPT following a clarification from department of mines and geology that the Supreme Court ban on mining does not extend to bauxite mining.
Agrawal on Thursday had directed the owner of the bauxite mine, Mayur Gosalia, to stop transportation of bauxite ore until an explanation was received from the department of mines and geology over the issue. Agrawal had written to the department of mines and geology to clarify the matter.
"I have received a letter from the department stating that the Shah Commission report has not recommended a ban on bauxite mining in the state and that the subsequent SC ban is restricted only to iron and manganese mines," he told TOI.
