
The average alumina spot price in China has recorded a significant hike for the fourth day in a row, higher from the earlier three days, found Shanghai Metals Market. SMM data shows the price has climbed by RMB 46 per tonne or 2.01 per cent to stand at RMB 2,333 per tonne, as of Friday, July 3, marking the second-highest growth this year since April 20 when the alumina spot price had increased by RMB 51 per tonne from RMB 2,064 per tonne to RMB 2,115 per tonne.

In the east, the average alumina spot price has increased by RMB 30 per tonne to clock at RMB 2,290 per tonne, while that in the central and north has surged by RMB 55 per tonne to RMB 2,345 per tonne. In the south, however, the alumina price has remained restrained at RMB 2,520 per tonne.
The imported alumina price has registered an increase as well by RMB 25 per tonne to RMB 2,275 per tonne, as of July 3, learned SMM, while the Australian alumina FOB price has recorded no change from US$ 262 per tonne.
But despite the surge in alumina spot price today, the price of A00 aluminium ingot in China has remained restrained at RMB 14,420 per tonne. The average prices are expected to range between RMB 14,400 per tonne and RMB 14,440 per tonne, with spot contract to be traded at a premium price of RMB 100-140 per tonne.

However, not all major Chinese markets have witnessed a restraint today in A00 aluminium ingot price, except Shenyang and Chongqing, where the prices have continued to stand at RMB 14,345 per tonne and RMB 14,360 per tonne, respectively. In Wuxi and Hangzhou, the price has grown by RMB 10 per tonne to RMB 14,420 per tonne and RMB 14,430 per tonne.
On the other hand, the A00 aluminium ingot price in Tianjin, Gongyi, and Linyi has plunged by RMB 10 per tonne, RMB 25 per tonne, and RMB 30 per tonne to, respectively, stand at RMB 14,360 per tonne, RMB 14,210 per tonne, and 14,370 per tonne.
As far as the other input costs are concerned, the price of prebaked anode in Central China has escalated by RMB 80 per tonne to stand at RMB 2,810 per tonne. The average prices are expected to range between RMB 2,630 per tonne and RMB 2,990 per tonne. In the east, however, the prebaked price has remained muted at RMB 2,750 per tonne.
