
In October 2020, China’s primary aluminium output recorded a month-on-month growth of 4.50 per cent to stand at 3.25 million tonnes, compared with 3.11 million tonnes in September, found the Shanghai Metals Market. On a year-on-year basis, China’s primary aluminium production in October stood higher by 8.5 per cent.

As of the end of October, the country’s primary aluminium capacity in operation was 38.67 million tonnes per annum among 44.18 million tonnes of existing capacity.
Operating rates across Chinese primary aluminium producers stood at 87.5 per cent in October. The daily average output rose 1,000 tonnes from September to 105,000 tonnes, with new capacities in southwest China and Inner Mongolia coming online and some producers in Liaoning and Qinghai restoring production.
During the first ten month of 2020, China’s primary aluminium production totalled 30.68 million tonnes, an increase of 4.2 per cent year-on-year. Consumption rose as well by 8.5 per cent to 31.5 million tonnes during the said period.
SMM expects China’s primary aluminium output to stand at 3.16 million tonnes in November, up by 7.67 per cent over the year.
