China customs data found the country’s prebaked anode exports stood at 141,600 tonnes in August 2022, which reflected a downfall of 31.43 per cent month-on-month and an increase of 6.99 per cent year-on-year. Custom statistics showed the export price per unit of prebaked anode was $1,334.50 per tonne, up by 1.29 per cent month-on-month.

The aggregated exports of prebaked anode from January to August of 2022 amounted to 1,365,400 tonnes, compared to 244,800 tonnes during the same period last year.
The monthly downfall in China’s prebaked anode exports was primarily contributed by Malaysia, Norway, and the Russian Federation, as the exports to those countries declined significantly. To Malaysia, China’s prebaked anode exports fell by over 25,000 tonnes in August, and that to Norway decreased by about 14,000 tonnes.
Although the monthly exports of prebaked anode declined in August, the year-on-year exports stood within the normal range, attributed to steady overseas orders. Aluminium production cut in the overseas market due to high energy costs turned consumers’ attention from the silvery-white domestic metal to China’s aluminium.
However, the exports declined M-o-M due to high export prices of China’s prebaked anode, resulting in profit reduction for overseas aluminium producers. In this scenario, prebaked anode exports in September 2022 is expected to hover around 130,000-160,000 tonnes.
