China’s alumina price loses 0.5% since March 1, with a drop of RMB3/t today; A00 aluminium ingot price discards RMB90/t

According to the Shanghai Metals Market survey, China’s average alumina spot price has continued to decline since the beginning of March and today marks the fourth consecutive day. As per SMM data, the alumina price has experienced a drop of RMB 3 per tonne on Wednesday, March 6, to stand at RMB 3,332 per tonne. From March 1 to March 6, the alumina spot price has shed off RMB 16 per tonne or 0.48 per cent, according to SMM.

Alumina prices in Shandong, Henan, and Shanxi have unanimously witnessed a drop of RMB 5 per tonne, settling at RMB 3,245 per tonne, RMB 3,355 per tonne, and RMB 3,345 per tonne.

The Australian alumina FOB price, on the other hand, has remained restrained at US$360 per tonne as of March 6, 2024.

In tandem with the continued price drop of alumina, A00 aluminium ingot price has also decreased overnight by RMB 90 per tonne or 0.47 per cent to stand at RMB 18,940 per tonne. According to SMM, the ingot price has discarded what it gained last day. On March 5, the price had gained RMB 90 per tonne to stand intermittently above RMB 19,000 per tonne.

Today, the average prices are expected to range between RMB 18,920 per tonne and RMB 18,960 per tonne, with spot contract to be traded at a discount price of RMB 60-20 per tonne.

In Chongqing and Shenyang, A00 aluminium ingot price has plunged by RMB 120 per tonne to peg at RMB 18,910 per tonne and RMB 18,890 per tonne, followed by the decline of RMB 90 per tonne in Wuxi, Hangzhou, and Gongyi to stand at RMB 18,930 per tonne, RMB 18,940 per tonne, and RMB 18,820 per tonne, respectively. In Foshan and Linyi, A00 aluminium ingot price has decreased by RMB 80 per tonne to reside at RMB 18,940 per tonne and RMB 18,920 per tonne, as of March 6.

The domestic low-carbon aluminium price and high-purity aluminium (99.99%) price has shrunk by RMB 80 per tonne and RMB 100 per tonne, respectively, to settle at RMB 19,782 per tonne and RMB 26,400 per tonne.
