Capral backs low-carbon aluminium transparency with verified EPDs for LocAl range

Australian aluminium extruder Capral Aluminium has reinforced its commitment to sustainable manufacturing by introducing independently verified Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for its LocAl® lower-carbon aluminium range.

An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is an independently verified document that quantifies a product's environmental impact throughout its lifecycle, based on internationally recognised assessment standards.

The new declarations provide architects, manufacturers, builders and specifiers with internationally recognised environmental data to reinforce embodied carbon assessments, responsible material selection and sustainability reporting.

The EPDs have been developed in line with ISO 14025 and EN 15804 standards, published through the International EPD System. They are designed to assess the cradle-to-gate (A1-A3) environmental impacts of Capral's low-carbon aluminium extrusions. The independently verified lifecycle information is intended to help customers accurately measure, report and compare the environmental footprint of construction and manufacturing projects.

"As an industry, we've reached a point where customers quite rightly expect more than broad sustainability claims," said Kellie Moore of Capral. Access to verified environmental data is becoming increasingly important as sustainability reporting requirements continue to evolve across the construction sector.

Whether it is a “Green Star certification, responding to government procurement requirements or meeting their own ESG commitments,” she added, “Architects, developers and manufacturers are being asked to measure and report embodied carbon with far greater accuracy than ever before.”

Capral’s newly launched EPDs are equipped to deliver independently verified information that customers can produce regarding “project specifications, Green Star submissions and embodied carbon reporting.”

According to Capral, the EPDs complement its broader sustainability strategy, which includes Australian manufacturing, Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) certification, Declare labelling and lower-carbon aluminium products. Together, these initiatives are intended to provide customers with transparent, independently verified information to support responsible procurement and material selection.
