Canada's aluminium flat rolled products imports from the US stand flat in April'22 despite growth in previous months

The use of aluminium plates, sheets and bars or flat rolled products is widespread and expanding slowly. It is used everywhere, from packaging to vehicles to cookware and even construction. Aluminium is becoming increasingly popular as a metal. The aluminium flat-rolled products are produced by rolling thick aluminium between rolls that reduce the thickness and lengthen it through hot and cold rolling processes.

The United States exported 23,400 tonnes of aluminium plates, sheets and bars to Canada in April 2022, which went up by 400 tonnes or 1.73 per cent M-o-M from 23,000 tonnes in March. As per the USGS data, M-o-M growth of 3,200 tonnes or 16.16 per cent was also recorded in March, from 19,800 tonnes in February. In February, an escalation of 400 tonnes or 2.06 per cent was also witnessed from 19,400 tonnes in January.

In April 2021, Canada imported 28,000 tonnes of aluminium plates, sheets and bars from the United States. A Y-o-Y calculation recorded a significant drop of 4,600 tonnes or 16.42 in April 2022. The total amount of aluminium plates, sheets and bars exported by the United States in April 2022 closed at 38,700 tonnes, which on a Y-o-Y forefront plummeted by 21,300 tonnes or 35.5 per cent from 60,000 tonnes in April 2021. 

Based on the USGS data, the amount of aluminium plates, sheets and bars exported by the United States in April 2022 stood at 38,700 tonnes, which escalated by 800 tonnes or 2.11 per cent from 37,900 tonnes in March. For the same year in March, a growth of 4,800 tonnes or 14.5 per cent was also recorded from 33,100 tonnes in February. In February and January, the amount of aluminium plates, sheets and bars exported by the United States remained restrained at 33,100 tonnes.
