Britvic upgrades Rugby factory with £26.9 million introducing extreme capacity canning line

EDITED BY : 3MINS READ

British producer of soft drinks, Britvic, has invested £26.9 million to enhance the operations in its Rugby factory along with maintaining the newfound canning line that can produce more than 120,000 aluminium cans per hour. This investment is to honour the company's 35 years of service in the town.

Mark Pawsey, the MP of Rugby, was the one who inaugurated the newly opened production line for aluminium cans, situated in Britvic's most significant production unit.

As Glebe Farm Industrial Estate data shows, the unit houses some of the quickest lines in Europe, with the new canning line adding almost 120,000 cans per hour to the production volume. The factory now proudly presents four capable canning lines, with the latest one boosting the total capacity by 20 per cent at the most. This addition may give rise to an extraordinary real production rate of almost half a million cans each hour.

After the detailed reconnoitre, Mark Pawsey exemplified: "It was a great pleasure to be able to open Britvic's new canning line and see for myself the additional investment by Britvic in their Rugby site. This is great news for our local economy and has created a number of new jobs, including opportunities for apprentices from the local area. Britvic has a 35-year history of manufacturing in Rugby, and the fourth canning line shows that the company remains committed to their site and their employees here."

"We were also able to discuss the need to ensure that packaging remains sustainable, and Britvic's arrangement with Ardagh Group is a great example of minimising the carbon footprint. It is also vital that the sector continues to recycle as much as they can, and the work which is ongoing at Britvic both for plastic and aluminium recycling is extremely positive," Mark continued.

The soft drink manufacturer flaunts an extremely star-studded customer list that includes Pepsi, 7UP and Tango. This latest investment might open opportunities for 20 new jobs. The unit already has an employee strength of almost 320 heads.

The Supply Chain Director, Nigel Paine, quoted: "Britvic knows that a strong supply chain is fundamental to its continued success. Having created a modern supply chain for the long-term with our Business Capability Programme, we're now supercharging it with further investment."

"Consumers love the convenience and sustainability credentials of our cans and, with the increased capacity this new line brings, we'll be able to put even more of them in their hands this summer and in summers to come," Nigel concluded.

On average, aluminium cans contain 74 per cent recycled material and are 100 per cent recyclable. Metal packaging leader Ardagh Group has a linking tunnel that transports aluminium cans to the Britvic factory. The entire process substantially decreases the carbon footprint left by the company.
