The iconic Electricity House of Bristol in London has been refurbished by noted developer Crest Nicholson, who brought back the landmark building's art deco style through elaborate use of window and door systems from Smart Architectural Aluminium.
Originally designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, the Grade II-listed building located within a conservation area at Bristol city centre has been transformed into a mixed-use development of commercial space and 85 high-specification luxury apartments. The recreation of the original art deco features could be made possible through use of high-end door and window systems from Smart Architectural Aluminium's outstanding line of products known for its authentic appearance and outstanding performance.

The aluminium structural systems for the restoration project have been supplied and installed by Techniglaze, one of Smart Architectural Aluminium's specialist fabricator and installer partners. Window solutions from the first to the fifth floor of the building have been provided by the company's Alitherm Heritage system. Almost 300 plus windows were supplied and installed by Techniglaze which included Alitherm's 225 units.
The aluminium window systems supplied by Alitherm Heritage are characterised by their exceptionally slim lines. The units accommodated 36mm double glazed window units to cater to the different levels of acoustic requirements specified by an acoustic engineer hired for the project.

The Alitherm Heritage window systems ensure exceptional thermal performance associated with modern aluminium structural systems. They are engineered to match the slickness and strength of traditional steel window profiles that are a common feature of many heritage projects and listed buildings.
“This was both a technically and logistically challenging project, set right in the heart of Bristol city centre, but we are all delighted with the outcome. We worked closely with the Smart team and the client, Crest Nicholson, to make sure we were able to realise their design and performance aspirations,” said Techniglaze Director Spencer Newman on completion of the project.
