Russian aluminium producer Rusal has reached an agreement with Ghana's state-owned Ghana Integrated Aluminum Development Corporation (GIADEC) to jointly develop bauxite mining and alumina refining projects, marking a significant step towards expanding the country's domestic aluminium value chain. Under the agreement, the projects will be implemented through two joint ventures in which Rusal will hold majority stakes. Guinea bauxite production was up 3.5 percent over the same period, according to a government report seen by Reuters. Guinea, the world's top exporter of bauxite which usually ships about 13 million tonnes a year, produced 11.2 million tonnes of the aluminium ore between January and August, according to the report.

The reserves of bauxite ore at the site on Žovnica have been estimated at 19.000 metric tons and besides Zovnica,deposits of bauxite have been also registered at Jasenjani near Drežnica. The so called “pocket” type of deposit is found in karst cavities of Upper Cretaceous limestone. The content of Al2O3 in the ore is 47%. Bauxite exports from Guinea' CBG have resumed, eight days after a breakdown blocked shipments from the West African state, the company told Reuters on Sunday. A memorandum of understanding signed between Aim-listed Bellzone and TSX-V-listed Anglo Aluminum Corporation would accelerate the development of resource projects in Guinea, Bellzone CEO Nik Zuks said on Monday. The infrastructure will be developed through Kalia Horizon Minerals (KHM), a CIF subsidiary, in which Bellzone has a 10% carrying interest. After 30 years, Suralco is to return to the Lelydorp 1 mine to mine the remaining 3 million tons of bauxite there. The Orissa government has sent a show cause notice to National Aluminium Company (Nalco), a Navratna public sector unit, on the non-commencement of work at the company’s Panchpatmali bauxite mine in Koraput district which has been not been operational since 2009.
