On Thursday, November 23, Metro Mining Limited reported that its record production at Bauxite Hills mine made the sales target easily achievable.
CEO and MD Simon Wensley said that the phased expansion to 5 million wet metric tonnes in August and September 2023 helped Bauxite Hills mine meet the annual sales target of 4.5 to 5 million tonnes by shipping 1.61 million wet metric tonnes through Q3 2023.
This new production milestone gives confidence boost to achieve the 7 million tonnes a year output rate by 2024, said Simon Wensley in a statement.
“The Metro team, together with our contract partners, have worked incredibly hard to reach this milestone. The rates currently being achieved provide high confidence that the 7mtpa production rate will be achieved in 2024.”
Metro Mining achieved another milestone as it held the official naming ceremony for its offshore floating terminal in Shenzen, China. The vessel name is Ikamba, meaning saltwater crocodile in the Ankamuthi language.
Metro Mining said the name represents its commitment to fostering a meaningful relationship with the Ankamuthi people, which are the traditional owners of the land of which the Bauxite Hills mine operates.
