Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO) announced on Wednesday, April 12, that it received the ‘PAT Top Performer’ award from R K Singh, Minister of Power and New & Renewable Energy, for its constant efforts towards energy conservation under the Perform, Achieve, and Trade (PAT) Scheme.

The presentation of the award took place on the occasion of the 21st Foundation Day of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), which introduced the PAT scheme to encourage energy-intensive industries to reduce specific energy consumption. The chief goal of the scheme is to make India’s industrial sector energy efficient.
Vedanta’s subsidiary BALCO represents the Indian aluminium industry as an energy-efficient company, recognised as a Top Performer Designated Consumer. BALCO’s commitment to becoming an environment-friendly aluminium producer has made it deploy the most resource and energy processes, such as adoption of clean technologies and inclusion of renewable energy.
BALCO said it applied 100 per cent graphitised cathodes in potrooms and carried out pot controller upgradation in potlines, which resulted in a significant amount of energy savings in specific power consumption under PAT Cycle II.
The company also said that its specific power consumption reduction under PAT Cycle II increased from 2 to 36 per cent, which marked a milestone under the PAT scheme and established BALCO's name as one of the most energy-efficient companies in India.
