Lanjigarh refinery’s alumina production moves up 11% in Q2 FY22, says Vedanta
Vedanta Limited on Monday announced that the alumina production in Lanjigarh refinery increased by 11 percent to close at 511,000 tonnes in the second quarter of FY2022. "The Lanjigarh refinery produced 511,000 tonnes of alumina in Q2 FY22, 6 per cent higher as compared to Q1 FY22 and 11 per cent higher as compared to Q2 FY21," stated company in a filing to the BSE. Compared to the Q2 FY22, the cast metal aluminium production, including trial at the Jharsuguda and BALCO for the second quarter of FY22 soared up by 21 percent to stand at 570,000 tonnes. For the first half of FY22, the alumina production surged by 6 percent on a Y-o-Y basis to settle at 993,000 tonnes. Project Y719, one of the largest yachts in the world, has finally hit the water at Oceanco, the Netherlands. Built of aluminium super structure, the superyacht is around 117 metre long and is launched from the yard’s Alblasserdam facility. Project Y719 was technically launched in 2019 from Zwijnenburg, one of the construction yards in Oceanco. Later it was moved inside the yard’s outfitting facility in Alblasserdam. The big and bold Y719 is expected to accommodate around 24 guests and 30 crewmembers. Mining Minister Robert Montage informed the House of Representatives that the August 22 fire breakout in the Jamalco alumina refinery has caused the company lose US$500,000 per day. This is based on the production cost of US$150 per tonnes of alumina at a production rate of 3,170 tonnes everyday. According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the United States imported 213,000 tonnes of crude metals and alloys from Canada in July 2021, reflecting a month-on-month decrease of 4,000 tonnes or 1.84 percent. Robert Montague, the Minister of Transport and Mining will be updating the parliament about the current situation of Jamalco alumina refinery which was affected by fire breakout on August 22, 2021. The alumina refinery, located in Hayes, Clarendon, was shut down initially after the fire breakout, resulting in significant alumina price hike. The fire began at around 3pm and four units from the Jamaica Fire Brigade were called to help Jamalco’s fire department for extinguishing it. However, on August 23, the refinery reported that “It has since been extinguished, with no serious injuries reported. A full assessment of the damage will be done in the coming days." According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), Mexico imported 9,030 tonnes of aluminium crude metals and alloys from the United States in the month of July 2021, which reflected a month-on-month decrease of 2,470 tonnes or 21.48 per cent. In June 2021, 11,500 tonnes of aluminium crude metals and alloys were exported to Mexico from the US, a growth of 12.75 per cent from 10,200 tonnes in May 2021. On a year-on-year calculation, US aluminium crude metals and alloys exports to Mexico in July 2021 moved up by 2,850 tonnes or by 46.12 per cent from 6,180 tonnes. Unity Aluminum fails to fulfil proposed construction of $1.7 billion aluminum mill; Kentucky legislature reclaims its $15 million investment
Braidy Industries, formerly known as Unity Aluminum, is a Kentucky based aluminum manufacturing company. The company in 2017 promised to build a US$1.7 billion aluminum mill near Ashland, for which, the legislature invested around US$15 million in the company. Craig T. Bouchard, the former CEO and founder of Unity Aluminum promised that the new aluminum mill would be completed by 2020 to produce aluminum sheet for the automotive industry. The mill was also expected to provide 550 well-paid jobs in Ashland. Going by the recent graph, no sign of construction or production can be seen in the area.
