Aluminium can stock shipments by US domestic producers record a 5% YoY drop in August 2018
According to the data revealed by The Aluminium Association, shipments of aluminium can stock by domestic producers in the United States totalled at around 338.5 million pounds in August 2018, while that in the same period last year was at 356.2 million pounds. In July 2018, shipments of aluminium can stock from the US had even stood higher at 351.3 million pounds in total. India defers retaliatory tariffs on US goods yet again till November 3
India for the third time has reportedly deferred the tit-for-tat tariffs against 29 American products worth US$ 235 million. The tariff was supposed to come into force today, September 18, as a response to the Trump administration for raising import duties on Indian aluminium and steel products. According to a report in Mint, this decision to postpone the retaliatory hikes till 3rd of November is taken since the two countries are attempting to find a solution. Chinalco to construct new alumina project in Guangxi: SMM updates
According to the latest update by Shanghai Metals Market, Aluminum Corporation of China Limited (Chinalco) on Monday, September 17, announced its plan to invest some RMB 5.81 billion to construct a new alumina project in Fangchenggang of Guangxi province. The project on completion will be reportedly having an annual capacity of 2 million tonnes. Guangxi Huasheng New Materials will monitor the construction and operation of the project, as per the news. The US alumina import drops 23% Q-o-Q in Q2 2018 while the export surges 20%
According to the latest USGS report on bauxite and alumina import by the United States in the second Quarter 2018, the volume found dropped from 434, 190 tonnes in the first quarter of the year to 353,000 tonnes. This shows that the alumina import volume by the US stood down 23 per cent quarter-on-quarter but grew year-on-year as per the report released by USGS. Primary aluminium inventories in China drop over the weekend leading to reduced ingot price
According to the latest update from Shanghai Metals Market, inventories of primary aluminium across eight major consumption areas in China decreased further by some 31,000 tonnes to stand at 1.645 million tonnes as of Monday September 17. On last Thursday, the inventories had lowered 38,000 tonnes to stand at 1.68 tonnes, which means the stocks reduced 2 per cent over the weekend. GFG Alliance is reportedly considering alternative plans to change the design of £120 million alloy wheel plant at the site to enable it to double its output. Shanghai Metals Market senior analyst Liu Xiaolei believes that the production cost of primary aluminium may surge backed on settling down of charges over captive power plants in the Shandong province earlier this week. According to the latest update from Shanghai Metals Market, inventories of aluminium billet across major consumption areas in China have extended their growth this week. The reason could be the sluggish consumption in Guangdong area, SMM research found. Stocks of 6063 aluminium billet across five major consumption areas have increased by 3200 tonnes from a week earlier to stand at 121,100 tonnes as of Thursday, September 13. The growth of some 6,500 tonnes in stocks across Foshan, Guangdong province mainly accounted for the increase.
