LB Aluminium reports more than two-fold jump in net profit for H1 FY2023
On Tuesday, December 6, LB Aluminium Bhd, one of the largest aluminium extrusion manufacturers in Asia, declared an 81 per cent hike in its net profit for the 2nd quarter of FY23 ended October 31 from RM6.83 million in the previous year to RM12.35 million, thanks to higher average selling prices and improved margins for its aluminium product segment. Quarterly revenue increased by 30 per cent to RM206.09 million for the said period versus RM158.84 million in 2QFY22. National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) has elevated its aluminium ingot and aluminium products prices, effective from December 7, in line with the LME aluminium price hike over a week. NALCO has significantly increased its aluminium ingot price by INR 14,700 per tonne or 6.6 per cent from INR 220,450-223,950 per tonne on November 29 to INR 235,150-238,650 per tonne on December 7. US' crude and dried bauxite imports reflect a 4% QoQ growth in 3Q2022, with Turkey emerging as second leading supplier
In the third quarter of 2022, the United States imported 669,000 tonnes of crude and dried bauxite, recording a sequential growth of 25,000 tonnes or 3.88 per cent, found the US Geological Survey data. In the second quarter, the import volume was 644,000 tonnes, down by 12.50 per cent from 736,000 tonnes in 1Q2022. Although the bauxite imports into the United States grew over a quarter for Q3, it decreased annually by 24.06 per cent from 881,000 tonnes. Africa & Asia (ex-China)’s alumina production in Oct’22 reflects a 6% hike M-o-M, with daily output up 1,000 tonnes
According to the International Aluminium Institute (IAI), alumina production in Africa & Asia (ex-China) was recorded at 1.181 million tonne during October 2022. That reflected a month-on-month increase of 6.01 per cent from 1.114 million tonnes, following a sequential plunge of 6.86 per cent from 1.196 million tonnes during August 2022. On a year-on-year calculation, Africa & Asia (ex-China)’s alumina production in October edged a hike of 8.35 per cent from 1.090 million tonnes. Hindalco Industries Limited has increased its aluminium products and aluminium ingot prices, with effect from November 30, following three back-to-back cuts on November 24, 25, and 29. Among Hindalco’s products prices, aluminium billets price has experienced a lift of INR 2,250 per tonne or 0.98 per cent to come in at INR 234,600 per tonne. In August 2022, the United States aluminium plates, sheets and bars exports to Canada grew by 3,800 tonnes or 18.18 per cent month-on-month to log at 24,700 tonnes, found the US Census Bureau data. In July 2022, the export volume from the US to Canada was 20,900 tonnes – only 800 tonnes more than 20,100 tonnes in June. However, the figure in June decreased by 3,500 tonnes or 14.83 per cent from 23,600 tonnes. Awareness programme for aluminium foil recycling is being spread out even to school students in York, the United Kingdom. The walled city in northeast England has designed a competition for primary school students during Christmas to make them learn the importance of recycling aluminium foil. According to the Shanghai Metals Market, social inventories of primary aluminium across China’s eight major consumption areas stood at 516,000 tonnes, reaching a new low on Monday, November 28. Over the weekend, the inventories edged 2,000 tonnes lower than 518,000 tonnes on Thursday, October 24, while over a week, the inventories recorded 14,000 tonnes less than 530,000 tonnes on November 21. The world alumina production in October 2022 saw a month-on-month increase of 4 per cent to stand at 12.004 million tonnes, found the International Aluminium Institute (IAI).
