Aurum Exploration contributes to community assistance program in Bua, Fiji

Aurum Exploration (Fiji) Ltd has given $25,000 to the people of Bua as part of its community assistance program.

Company executive Sang Lei said the funds were given to the provincial office to help with scholarships for students.

The bauxite mining company has assisted students in other academic areas.

"It is part of giving back to the people of Bua and the $25,000 was half of their target of $50,000," Mr Sang said.

"We are glad to be of assistance to the people of Bua and especially assist in the areas of education and development.

"The company has done a lot of community work in the province including donating computers and other equipment to schools."

Mr Lei said the company had stepped in to help during times of natural disasters, giving food to the elderly in villages.

Tui Wainunu Ratu Orisi Baleitavea said the assistance from the company would help the children of Bua.

"We have children who want to pursue further studies but cannot because of financial struggles their parents face," he said.

"This kind of help will certainly assist them achieve their dreams and we are grateful to the company.

"Helping these students achieve their dreams will only benefit the vanua of Bua because these children will come back to help develop the province through the knowledge, experience and skills gained from working."
