Audi to launch Q1 crossover in 2016 with plenty of aluminium

According to a recent report by AutoBild, Audi is planning to launch a Q1 crossover by 2016. The Q1 will be based on the Volkswagen Polo.

Built on the Volkswagen Polo platform, this baby crossover would reportedly measure 3.8 meters in length. Despite being a crossover with a raised seating position and generous ground clearance for its size, the Q1 will not be available with Quattro All wheel drive system.

The new Audi Q1 may have plenty of aluminium. The use of aluminium and other composite materials can considerably cut the vehicle weight, and increase the performance and the fuel efficiency. But, use of aluminium increases the overall cost of production of the vehicle, which is then passed on to the customer.

Aud is already testing the S1 quite aggressively, which is expected to be offered with the Quattro All wheel drive system, while this Q1 would not. Also, the new 2015 Audi Q7 which will be hopefully launched by next year, will also see generous use of aluminium to increase the performance of the mammoth SUV.

Pricing for this Q1 crossover is believed to be less than 20,000 Euros.
