ASI certifies Magna's Powertrain factory in Kechnec with the Performance Standard V3 certification

Magna's Powertrain factory in Kechnec, Slovakia, has been certified against the ASI Performance Standard V3 (2022), according to the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI). The factory oversees gearbox casting, heat treatment operations, gearbox housing and component machining, and DCT gearbox assembly and testing. This is Magna's sixth Powertrain factory to be certified, and it is the company's first complete V3 accreditation.

"We are committed to creating a better world of mobility for all. At the core of our strategic vision lies a deep dedication to environmental stewardship and sustainability, propelling us forward into a future defined by responsible practices. Today's ASI certification of our Kechnec facility and the achievement of Magna's first full V3 (2022) certification signifies another pivotal milestone on this transformative journey," added Ahmed ElGanzouri, Global Director of Sustainability and Energy at Magna.

The ASI Certification programme was created after a thorough consultation involving several stakeholders. It stands as the only complete voluntary sustainability standard project for the whole aluminium value chain. The ASI Performance Standard V3 (2022) was introduced in May 2022 after an extensive modification spanning many years.

"We congratulate Magna for achieving Performance Standard Certification V3 (2022) at its Kechnec facility. The quest to produce more eco-friendly vehicles worldwide means that aluminium's high strength-to-weight ratio, excellent corrosion resistance, electrical conductivity, formability, and impact resistance properties make it an attractive material for today's automobile manufacturers. Magna's continued pursuit of ASI Certifications at its production facilities underscores the company's commitment to enhancing sustainability in its global operations," said Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI.
