Artist designs ant hill sculptures with molten aluminum
A video recently posted to YouTube shows how Anthill Art is made – by pouring a gurgling pot of molten aluminum into an ant hill, digging it up and then washing off the dirt.
This particular cast, of a fire ant colony, reached a depth of 18 inches and weighs nearly 18 pounds. It’s being auctioned on eBay.
"This cast would make an amazing display as an artistic piece for a fireplace mantle or as an educational display for a science classroom or laboratory," the description reads.
Since each sculpture involves the destruction of a colony, Anthill Art has been the subject of criticism online.
“I disabled comments because I'm sick of your bickering,” reads the video’s description on YouTube. “Also, I couldn't get YouTube to stop sending me an email every time someone posted ‘What if I poured aluminum in your house’ for the 100th time.”
