Anil Ambani group plans integrated solar unit, expands NU Energies in major clean-energy push

EDITED BY : 3MINS READ

Anil Ambani’s Reliance Group is moving into a new phase of its clean-energy ambitions, rolling out plans for two manufacturing platforms under Reliance Infrastructure and expanding its renewable generation arm, Reliance NU Energies. Together, the initiatives are designed to give the group an integrated foothold in solar manufacturing, battery storage and round-the-clock green power.

A core part of the plan is a fully integrated solar manufacturing complex that will bring ingot, wafer, cell and module production under one roof. In a filing to the BSE, Reliance ADAG said the facility will be built around advanced technologies such as TopCon+, along with future-ready back-contact and tandem cell designs.

The group believes this timing aligns well with government incentives, pointing to ALMM expansion, PLI schemes and domestic manufacturing expansion. The company noted that India may need 55–60 GW of solar modules annually by 2030, yet still lacks substantial upstream capacity - a gap the new facility aims to address while reducing import dependence.

Battery manufacturing and BESS platform to anchor storage plans

Alongside the solar factory, Reliance ADAG is developing a battery production base paired with a grid-scale BESS ecosystem. This setup will span cell manufacturing, pack assembly and containerised storage units designed for utility-scale renewable projects.

The company intends to capture 60 – 70 per cent of the midstream value chain in storage, signalling an ambition to become a major domestic supplier of batteries and BESS systems as India’s demand accelerates.

Reliance NU energies expands into 24x7 renewable supply

Reliance NU Energies, the renewable arm of Reliance Power, is undergoing a shift from being purely solar-focused to building a portfolio capable of delivering round-the-clock green energy supported by solar, wind and BESS. Over the past year, the platform has secured 4.0 GW of solar, 6.5 GWh of BESS, and 770 MW of hydropower in Bhutan through long-term 25-year PPAs.

The company says this mix allows it to supply dispatchable renewable power, compete in peak and RTC tenders, and improve returns through digital optimisation and energy trading.

With manufacturing, storage and generation now being built into a single framework, Reliance ADAG says it is creating an energy “flywheel” designed to reinforce India’s clean-energy ambitions. According to the group, this integrated approach will support the national target of 500 GW of non-fossil energy and contribute to the broader Atmanirbhar Bharat vision by strengthening domestic capabilities across the value chain.
