The event drew a full house, including distinguished guests such as the WA Premier, Hon Roger Cook; Minister for Mines, Hon David Michael; Leader of the WA Liberal Party, Libby Mettam MLA; and Director General of DEMIRS, Richard Sellers, alongside AMEC members and industry leaders. The gathering was an opportunity to recognise and celebrate mining and exploration companies' notable achievements and often underappreciated contributions nationwide.

Warren Pearce, AMEC Chief Executive Officer, said, “These awards are all about ‘Celebrating Industry Excellence’, and without a doubt, there are plenty of incredible achievements to celebrate. “It’s important to have events like this, to take stock and reflect on the difference the mineral exploration and mining sectors make for so many people in Australia.”

“We’re all aware that our high standard of living is linked to the economic strength of the resources industry. However, it’s the difference individuals and companies are making in the communities they operate that aren’t so often discussed.”

Metro Mining has been honoured with the Environment Award for its innovative approach to the 'Legacy Kaolin Mine Rehabilitation' project. Situated in western Cape York, Queensland, the company's Bauxite Hills Mine received approval contingent on the rehabilitation of approximately 14 hectares of previously disturbed land. Through their dedicated efforts, Metro Mining is creating a post-mining landscape that is stable, self-sustaining, and safe while restoring the land to its original capability and ecological value, closely mirroring its pre-mining state.

Simon Wensley, CEO of Metro Mining, stated, "We have rehabilitated a large tailings area adjacent to a creek, which was left as a legacy on our lease from a previous mining project. This was achieved safely and efficiently by the site environmental and operations team whilst Metro was in turnaround mode, so kudos to everyone involved at the Bauxite Hills Mine."
