Metal cans, particularly aluminium cans used for beverage and aerosol packaging, are the most recycled packaging units worldwide. The packaging sector grew through 2022 as the demand for beverage cans and packaging foil increased. In 2023, the packaging, electrical and industrial sectors are expected to grow moderately.
Ambev, the Brazilian brewing company, launched Brahma draft beer in a 350 ml aluminium can at the Web Summit technological conference held at Rio de Janeiro (RJ). The innovation is now being tested in the city where the event occurred and is only accessible on the Zé Delivery beverages app.Ambev has experienced exponential development in the sale of draft beer in recent years and has heard from customers about their desire to enjoy the drink experience at home in an easy and basic manner.
"There was a lot of research and testing until we arrived at a microfiltration process that guarantees quality, freshness and a super creamy foam," said Daniel Baumann, director of CIT.
The company's technical innovation centre (CIT) in Rio de Janeiro was tasked with developing the optimal formula for canned draught beer. In addition to lessons learnt from ongoing initiatives, there was a discussion on the best practices of the Asian operation for maintaining quality and correctly reproducing the experience of individuals who sample the liquor at the bar.
“This innovation was only possible due to the advancement in the platform model that Ambev has been developing in recent years, because, despite being in a can, Brahma draft beer needs to have the entire logistics chain refrigerated to guarantee quality and freshness, from the brewery to the consumer's home”, stated Gustavo Castro, director of Innovation at the Ambev.
