Indian green hydrogen developer AM Green has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the VO Chidambaranar Port Authority for developing a green ammonia project in southern India.
{alcircleadd}The facility is going to be constructed in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, and is planned to produce one million tonnes of green ammonia annually.
According to the company, the project is intended to support the development of green fuel trade routes linking India with markets in Europe and Asia.
The agreement marks AM Green's second large-scale green ammonia project. The company is already developing a one-million-tonne-per-year green ammonia facility in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, which is expected to begin operations by 2028.

The MoU was signed during a visit by Santosh Sarangi, Minister of New and Renewable Energy, to the port last week.
During the visit, the officials of the facility showcased the port's green hydrogen project, which was launched in September 2025. The facility is capable of producing 10 Nm3 per hour of green hydrogen and supplies fuel for a vehicle refuelling station as well as power generation for street lighting.
The port is also planning additional projects, including a 9 MW wind power facility and a 750-cubic-metre methanol bunkering and refuelling unit.
Officials said these developments form part of broader plans to position Thoothukudi as a hub for alternative marine fuels and low-carbon energy projects.
The latest agreement is to invest in green hydrogen and ammonia projects across India as the country expands its presence in emerging clean fuel markets.
