The Centre d’expertise sur l’aluminium (CeAl) and Alcoa Innovation have jointly announced a competition with the theme Community-Focused Architecture Starts with Aluminum.
Aimed at fostering innovative use of the sustainable light metal in modern building designs, the competition will get the Association des Architectes en pratique privée du Québec (AAPPQ) as a co-organizer. Financial support for the event will come from the Ministère de l’Économie, de la Science et de l’Innovation (MESI).

The earlier editions of the competition were primarily dedicated to industrial design projects for a consumer product. Next year’s edition, for the first time, will invite Québec architects to participate and showcase their designs using aluminium for sustainable building projects. The unique initiative is intended to promote the judicious and proactive use of the green metal with infinite recyclability.
The Community-Focused Architecture Starts with Aluminum-themed competition will invite applications from architects and interns of AAPPQ member firms.
“Aluminium has a bright future, and we should be taking full advantage of it. Competitions such as this one, which fosters the emergence of innovative uses of aluminium, help to shape the future, right here, in Québec. For this reason, we are proud that our government is partnering with the Centre d’expertise sur l’aluminium and with Alcoa Innovation to ensure the success of this initiative, which shares the objectives of the 2015–2025 Québec Aluminium Development Strategy,” said Dominique Anglade, Deputy Premier, Minister of Economy, Science and Innovation, and Minister responsible for the Digital Strategy, Canada.

CeAl is an initiative of AluQuébec and is intended to be the toolbox of the Industrial Aluminum Cluster of Quebec.
