Followed by controlled production at aluminium fluoride manufacturers in mid-June, the fluoride prices in China have been reportedly clocking a steady trend since the beginning of the month, Shanghai Metals Market found.
Major fluorochemical enterprises were heard to have convened in mid-June in Hengshan, Hunan province and agreed to operate in a staggered pattern to support aluminium fluoride prices at RMB 9000 per tonne ex-work level. These producers suspended production in every alternate month and kept only half of the overall capacities in operation.
{alcircleadd}Aluminium fluoride prices began to rebound soon after these production curbs came into effect. Some offers were even seen at over RMB 10000 per tonne due to limited supply in the market, in contrast to RMB 8500 per tonne in early June.
As of August 14, the fluoride price is found continued at RMB 9800 per tonne since the first day of the month after it jumped RMB 100 per tonne from the previous day. In June also, the fluoride price held steady throughout the month at RMB 9700 per tonne. Today, the average prices are expected to range between RMB 9700 per tonne and RMB 9900 per tonne.

The aluminium fluoride market is relatively small in China with a total production capacity of around 2 million tonnes, hence, was easier to effectively conduct production cut.
Aluminium fluoride prices in the domestic market are forecast to rise further by SMM backed on the limited supply of aluminium fluorite. However, meanwhile, the prices are likely to see minimal impact from winter production cuts given the existing curbs.
As far as the prices of other raw materials are concerned, alumina spot price is on a rising spree this month, registering as high as RMB 3037 per tonne on 10th of August. Today, on August 14, the bauxite price stands at RMB 3059 per tonne. Bauxite still hovers at RMB 505 per tonne since the late last month, while pre-baked anode continues at RMB 3315 per tonne.
