
Aluminium convenience food packaging company i2r has opened a new warehouse at its manufacturing facility in Telford. Jon West, commercial director of i2r has spent around £1.5m for the extension of building and same amount on press capacity and tooling in 2016.
At present, the packaging solution company has 13 aluminium lines and five paper lines that will rise to 15 and nine respectively in 2017. Last year, i2r grew 16 per cent and the company is expecting to reach 17 per cent in 2017.
Jon West commented: “We will be the second manufacturer, and are confident of taking market share. We have secured significant contracts for tulip wraps – in the UK and overseas. We are the only UK manufacturer of paper and foil packs in this field.”
He added that food packaging sector has made growth in the demand for foods in a convenient format as it ensures high quality and food safety to consumers.

“I think that is the single driver for growth. All the retailers have been driving the quality up and aluminium has been a great vehicle,” he concluded.
i2r, one of the largest aluminium convenience food packaging firms by tonnage has planned to invest £2m in 2017, according to West.
