Aluminium considered best material for storm doors by US door makers

EDITED BY : BEETHIKA BISWAS 1MINS READ

Storm doors are used to protect homes and front doors from weather damage and to make homes energy-efficient. According to Ryon Oates, owner of The Door Guys in Crosby, Texas, they provide extra security and boost the curb appeal of homes.

Aluminium is considered to be the preferred material for storm doors by major door manufacturers in the U.S. Aluminium works best for frame for storm doors because of its strength, weather-resistant nature and installation comfort.

According to Ron Koralewski, a salesman for the Joe Wilde Company in New Berlin, Wis., though an aluminium door with a wood core can be used, aluminium is the better investment.

“Aluminium is thicker and more rigid. Wood has some flex to it,” he said. Aluminium doors also are sold in various degrees of thickness. The thicker the aluminium door, the sturdier it is, Koralewski says.

After a person chooses the aluminium door, its colour, hardware and the thickness, he needs to decide the view and ventilation options.

The cost of storm doors ranges from $180 up to $1,200 and installation costs range from about $175 to $250 in the market.
