Aluminium bottles from Trivium Packaging, the ultimate choice for BEG Destilaria

Founded in 2015, BEG Destilaria Boutique, the luxury spirits company known for its famous artisanal gin, chose aluminium as its packaging material for refill bottles. The refill bottle is nine times lighter than glass, which means less fossil fuel per volume transported. BEG makes all its products by hand, diluting the resultant spirit with water rather than neutral alcohol to obtain the ABV needed for bottling after distilling the botanicals.

Aluminium cans, lighter glass bottles and aseptic cartons were all options that BEG looked into for the refill bottle. Instead, it opted for a 500-mL aluminium bottle, which Marcelo Nery, Coordinator of R&D at Trivium Packaging-Brazil, claims is made using an innovative alloy and results in a 48-g container lightweight and has a less carbon footprint than the original glass bottle.

"The aluminum bottle from Trivium is perfect. It looks great, it feels great, it's more versatile—aluminum goes where glass can't—it costs less for our customers, and it's way more sustainable. In Brazil, 98.4% of all the aluminum packaging is recycled—we have an incredible circular economy around aluminum here," said Arthur Flosi, BEG Boutique Distillery's founding partner and master distiller.

The choice of an inside coating for the container was one of the factors considered while designing the refill bottle. Marcelo Nery reveals that Trivium uses a unique food-grade liner to safeguard the product's characteristics and increase its shelf life by resisting the high alcohol concentration.
