According to the Indian Aluminium Institute data, alumina production in South America shrank by 5.95 per cent or 57,000 tonnes month-on-month to 901,000 tonnes in June 2022. But in May, the monthly output edged 3.03 per cent higher M-o-M from 929,000 tonnes.
On a year-on-year calculation, South America's alumina output in June 2022 registered a downfall of 11.58 per cent from 1.019 million tonnes.
Thus, in the three-month time (April-June), total production of alumina in South America amounted to 2.788 million tonnes, down by 2 per cent quarter-on-quarter from 2.845 million tonnes. On a year-on-year basis, the output recorded a fall as well by 12.63 per cent from 3.191 million tonnes.
In the first half of 2022, alumina production in South America totalled 5.633 million tonnes – 16.95 per cent less than 6.783 million tonnes in H2 2021 and 11.25 per cent down from 6.347 million tonnes in H1 2021.
In North America, on the other hand, alumina output in June 2022 recorded a hike of 16,000 tonnes or 8.74 per cent month-on-month to 199,000 tonnes. But in May, alumina production in North America reflected a plunge of 27,000 tonnes from 210,000 tonnes to 183,000 tonnes, found IAI.
On a year-on-year basis, North America’s alumina output in June 2022 registered a downfall of 11.56 per cent from 225,000 tonnes.
During April to June, North America produced 592,000 tonnes of alumina, which reflected a slight change of 591,000 tonnes in the March quarter. Over a year, North America’s alumina production during Q2 2022 fell by 9.2 per cent from 652,000 tonnes.
