Alpha Laboratories' aluminium foil plate seals ensure easy sample access

Alpha Laboratories' AlumAseal®- the brand synonymous with sealing radiator and heater core leaks for over 75 years now, has added new aluminium foil plate seals to its product mix. AlumaSeal 96™, AlumaSeal 384™, and AlumaSeal II™ are ideal for sealing samples within plate wells of different specifications.

They can be readily pierced with automated or manually-operated pipette tips for hassle-free sample access as required. By ensuring easy individual access, AlumAseal aluminium foil plate seals also eliminate the potential for aerosols and cross-contamination that can result when removing other types of plate-sealing lids.

The aluminium plate foil seals exhibit high temperature tolerance thereby protecting samples within the range of -80ºC and 120ºC, said Alpha Laboratories spokesperson. AlumAseal products provide excellent barrier properties with virtually no sample evaporation or drying. Being certified DNase-, RNase-, and nucleic-acid-free, they ensure no sample is contaminated or subjected to assay interference.

AlumaSeal 96™ is sized to fit inside the rim of raised-rim PCR plates. It has a partial width end-tab for easy removal. AlumaSeal 384™ can be used with any 384 or 96 well plate that doesn’t have a raised edge and it has a single full width end-tab. They consist of 38 μm thick aluminium foil with 38 μm layer of acrylic adhesive.

AlumaSeal II™ is a 36 μm soft non-permeable aluminium foil sealing film with a 28μm layer of strong medical-grade acrylic adhesive. It is ideal for PCR and cold storage. Each sealing film measures 82.6 x 146.1mm and offers sufficient sealing area for all PCR plates. Compared to other aluminium foils in the same category, AlumaSeal II has fewer tendencies to roll back on it when removing the backing paper and conforms well to the plate during application. It eliminates the need for heat-sealing devices or mats.
