Alcan Cable (Atlanta, GA) issued a letter to its customers informing them that, due to rising commodity costs for metals, resins and transportation fuels, the company has increased list prices from 8% to 9% on the following aluminum cable products:

-- Residential products: SER, MHFC and SEU
-- Non-residential products: XHHW, FeederPlex and USE
-- MC Cable and MC Cable with jacketing
-- Bare ACSR, AAC, AAAC and ACSS cables
-- 600v covered URD and OHSD cables
The company said that all quotes and bids will be priced at the new levels effective as of Tuesday, March 6, 2012.

Concurrently, as reported by Zacks.com, Alcoa Inc. (NYSE: AA), the world’s largest aluminum producer, also announced that it would raise prices by 5% for certain coil and flat sheet products, with price increases for new orders taking effect from March 1, 2012. The company said the price hikes were in response to soaring demand for aluminum alloys in the aerospace industry.
